Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective, and structured psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms that may impact you and your ability to function in a healthy way. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process.

As a man with personal and professional experiences regarding popular perceptions and internalized impressions of boyhood and masculinity, I have great appreciation for the unique mental health realities and challenges that men face. Recognizing the stigma and possible shame associated with seeking out therapeutic services and the consequential reality that men can struggle in silence, I believe it takes great courage and strength to seek out help.

I am extremely motivated by the opportunity to accompany men as they open the doors and learn about themselves, reflect on their past and current experiences, and acquire the necessary tools and skills to effectively navigate their challenges and meet their needs. It is my goal to make mental health interventions relatable, safe, beneficial and tailored to each person’s needs.

As men, we tend to be our own worst critic and can have rigid expectations towards ourselves, which can have an important impact on the relationship we foster and maintain with our own person and with our environment. There is no health without mental health, and mental health can be more than the absence of mental illness. You deserve to have your mental health and wellbeing tended to- we train our physical health, we can also train our mental health.

Men can expect to be greeted in a non-judgmental, open and respectful environment, and to feel heard, supported and encouraged as they take steps in their desired direction. I am committed to making each person’s therapeutic goals, our goals, and to walking the journey with you.

You deserve this. I look forward to joining you on your journey of growth, discovery, and healing.

I help men overcome trauma and addiction, particularly compulsive sexual behaviour (sex or porn addiction), trauma, relationship challenges, and other mental health concerns. My goal is to help clients address behaviours that no longer serve them and may be causing challenges in their lives.

I also work with partners and couples working through betrayal trauma, conflict, communication, and infidelity.

Prior to becoming a therapist I worked as a personal trainer and yoga instructor for 12 years. Working with people’s physical challenges helped me become aware of the fact that many of the issues my clients were trying to address on the gym floor were actually rooted in emotional struggle. I now use my extensive knowledge of physiology and anatomy to help my clients understand the connection between our emotions and our bodies, and how our bodies store trauma.

My area of focus is trauma, specifically, the trauma that underlies sexual addiction, and the betrayal trauma caused by a partner’s compulsive sexual behaviour.

Trauma isolates us. It cuts us off from community and support due to shame, or the inability to understand and articulate our needs. I work with my clients to identify problematic behaviours, understand what drives the behaviours, and build skills to address those behaviours.

We work together to formulate realistic and achievable goals. I provide a non-judgemental space for individuals to explore their challenges openly and honestly, perhaps for the first time.

Most of all, I help my clients find hope because hope changes everything.

Having experience supporting men through their unique challenges has helped me understand the demands many men face in their individual, family, and professional lives. I understand how difficult it can be to ask for help, and I am glad you have taken this step. Together we can work to identify unmet needs, and communication and relationship difficulties while working to address challenges such as depression, anxiety, anger, body image and self-esteem. Having someone to discuss personal and professional transitions with can be quite helpful, and I would be grateful to help support you through these periods in your life.

I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment where men can come to share and express their experiences and emotions. I understand how challenging it can be to find a space where you feel seen and understood, and it is my goal to help you feel comfortable and safe to explore your unique needs. I utilize an integrative and collaborative approach, drawing from therapeutic modalities such as person-centred therapy, emotion-focused therapy, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive-behavioural therapy to create a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs, goals, and preferences.

Together we will work toward becoming “unstuck”. By exploring communication strategies, building success and momentum, and utilizing the strengths you already possess we will move forward toward the life you are seeking. We will work together to build success and momentum, helping you develop a deep sense of purpose and confidence to face life’s challenges as they arise.

My work with clients is based on the belief that the past can be a helpful guide to explaining the present, but it does not have to dictate our future. By working together, we can explore perspectives, expand possibilities, and empower ourselves to make new choices.

I work with clients to create a safe, non-judgmental, empathetic relationship where we investigate new ways of thinking, change behavioural patterns, and heal trauma. We might work to improve your relationship with emotions, as well as brainstorm practical solutions. The outcome is increased self awareness and a feeling of agency over life’s challenges.

When working with couples, I help them to identify negative patterns of communication and attachment in their relationship, empowering them to de-escalate conflict and strengthen their bond for years to come. I have training in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy and have completed the Emotionally Focused Therapy Externship.

Taking the first step to make change in your life and accept support can sometimes feel the most challenging. As a counsellor at a sober living house for men struggling with addiction, I have extensive experience working with men from all walks of life, including those struggling with addiction, depression, grief, low self-esteem, anger, anxiety, and relationship issues. I understand that men often struggle with societal expectations of masculinity and the pressure to suppress their emotions, and use a holistic approach to help men address the underlying causes of their mental health concerns.

In my work, I have noticed men come to therapy for many reasons and express these needs from a therapist:

A safe and comfortable environment: I believe that men should feel that they can be open and honest with their therapist and that their therapist will provide a non-judgmental, supportive space for them to explore their thoughts and feelings.

A therapist who understands the unique challenges men face: Men may struggle with societal expectations of masculinity, pressure to suppress emotions, and stigma around seeking help. I am a therapist who understands these challenges can help men feel more comfortable and understood.

A focus on practical solutions: Men may be more motivated to work towards practical solutions rather than focusing on emotions and feelings. I aim to be a therapist that can provide men with practical strategies to help them overcome their challenges.

Emphasis on self-compassion and self-acceptance: Men often struggle with self-worth and self-esteem, and I believe that a therapist should teach men how to be kind and compassionate to themselves as well as acceptance for who they are.

Encourage men to take responsibility for their thoughts and feelings: Men are often taught to avoid vulnerability and emotional expression, but I believe that therapy can help men take ownership of their thoughts and feelings, which can be empowering and lead to positive change.

A willingness to address underlying issues: Men’s mental health issues may be rooted in past experiences or traumas. I strive to be a a therapist should be willing to help men explore these underlying issues and work through them to achieve long-term healing.

Some of my past clients have reached out because of interpersonal issues, addiction, or other mental health concerns. I have found it helpful to spend time trying to understand your past thinking and behaviour so that you can find meaning moving forward in your life. My goal is for you to have better insight into your self and for you to feel better equipped to deal with any challenges you are faced with in the future.

I don’t want to talk about it by Terry Real

Are you one of the many men struggling with relationships, including the one with yourself? Do you live with low self- esteem and poor self-confidence? You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, or challenges in communicating with others.

I use a variety of therapeutic frameworks to support clients like you. Our time spent together could be focused on building a strong sense of self, identifying strengths, and equipping you with the tools needed to maintain well-being as you move forward in life.

I appreciate that time spent in sessions provides me with the opportunity to get to know you, hear your stories, experiences and how you have been shaped into who you are today. Through exploring the cognitive and behavioural challenges you are facing; we can learn new perspectives that help build you up as a person in feeling confident and knowing your self-worth.

With a better understanding of who you are, you will be better able to grow and establish a relationship with yourself and others. While I work primarily with youth and young adults, I also support adults. My general approach is not spirituality-driven, and I welcome clients of all backgrounds. I can incorporate Christian faith into treatment if you are looking for faith-based counselling.

Couples/Relationship Issues Many men may not feel safe talking with others, particularly if they have experienced trauma, grief, or shame. Often, even those they are closest to may not understand or know the depth of their pain or issue.

Many men may feel that they are burdening others with their problems, and may try to solve their challenges on their own, which may lead to deeper struggles and, at times, anxiety, addiction, or depression. I work with men to create  a safe and empathetic place for you to share your thoughts, feelings, and struggles.  We will work together to  come up with solutions for coping tools and resources to help manage life’s challenges. I believe in looking at the client holistically and managing symptoms prior to working on goals.

I also work with couples to help them understand themselves better and their role within the relationship. My goal is to create an open, non-judgmental place for healing, whether working with an individual or couple.

Bessel van der Kolk, M.D. asserts in his acclaimed book “The Body Keeps the Score” that “Neuroscience research shows that the only way we can change the way we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to befriend what is going inside ourselves.” This perspective resonates deeply with my approach to psychotherapy.

In sessions, we will be holding the curiosity about your inner world and all levels of experiences, including emotional, cognitive, somatic, and relational. We will be exploring together what you deeply want for yourself – the Heart’s Desire - and what is in the way of that. I work with clients facing a wide range of challenges, including complex and childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, self-image and self-esteem, relational difficulties, attachment issues, substance misuse, personality patterns (borderline and narcissism), and more.

I use the NeuroAffective Relational Model® (NARM™) as the primary framework, an experiential approach integrating Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Attachment Theory, Somatic Psychology, Cognitive Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. This approach creates a safe space that supports us in delving into the core of your experiences and uncover what may be holding you back from connecting with yourself and others.

Although we can’t fix what has happened in the past, my role is to support you in restoring your innate capacity for heal and connection. Together, we will explore and address any obstacles that may be hindering your growth and create the right condition where you can heal from difficult experiences and emerge stronger.

My work involves helping men overcome the barriers that lead to mental health concerns and challenges. Some of these may include: addiction, shame, low-self esteem, relationship issues, trauma, and poor communication skills. With a focus on providing a safe environment, I understand that men face unique challenges when it comes to seeking help and finding emotional support.

I have always been drawn to people, and over time grown deep appreciation for the value of sharing and listening intentionally. About Adam

In my own journey, a turning point occurred in 2016, shortly after I returned from Dubai and 10 years of life overseas. Faced with an existential crisis and challenging personal circumstances, I decided to take the first step and seek professional support. It wasn’t easy, particularly given that I had spent many years ignoring problems and seeking unhealthy ways to cope with life’s stresses. I was scared to open up to another person. Yet with each appointment I felt the fog had been lifted and I got to know myself better. Relationships with others began to improve and I began to seek healthier ways to live and relate. Having had experience in both the client’s and therapist’s chair, I know how scary and daunting it can feel to be in your shoes despite our own unique, individual story.

Therapy, particularly for men, can be an overwhelming and often stigmatizing experience. Many men have been raised to withhold or suppress their feelings, which can make taking the first step even more anxiety-provoking and stressful. Working with a qualified therapist offers one the opportunity to comfortably and safely discuss difficulties and challenges, learn and sharpen skills, and develop positive tools and resources aimed at living a healthier, more authentic life.

As the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said, “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single “step”

I welcome the chance to begin this journey with you.

I’ve been on a meaningful journey as a therapist for more than 15 years now. My passion lies in helping men navigate life’s ups and downs and find their way to a happier, healthier place.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse individuals facing various challenges like addiction, mental health struggles, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Yet, my heart has a special place for supporting men in their unique battles and guiding them towards personal growth and healthier relationships. I understand the importance of addressing the specific concerns and needs that men may encounter in today’s world.

In my work, I primarily lean on a cognitive-behavioral framework. This approach empowers individuals to recognize and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. But here’s the thing, I also have a knack for weaving in elements of philosophy, art, spirituality, and even religion into the therapeutic process. It’s all about offering a holistic approach to healing that aligns with my clients’ beliefs and values.

In my current role as a Registered Social Worker/Psychotherapist working with individuals on probation/legal system, I’ve gained extensive experience in addressing complex issues. These include sexual offenses, addiction (alcohol and drugs), anger management, anxiety, depression, trauma, and a variety of relationship challenges. I approach my work using a cognitive-behavioral and “good life model” framework, guiding individuals towards a life filled with purpose, meaning, and fulfillment.

My promise to you is this: I’m here to create a safe, judgment-free space where you can explore your concerns, discover solutions, and work towards building a healthier, more satisfying life. With my wealth of experience and compassionate approach, I’m here to support individuals, especially men, on their journey towards personal growth, improved relationships, and enhanced well-being.

Men that come to see me usually stuck, feeling paralyzed, stressed, anxious, depressed or directionless.

Emotional repression or the inability to talk about things often exacerbates these issues, preventing individuals from fully understanding and processing their emotions. By creating a safe and nonjudgmental space, I aim to cultivate a therapeutic relationship that encourages the freedom to identify, label, express, and ultimately move through these emotions.

Through this transformative process, his ultimate goal is to empower individuals to regain control over their emotional well-being and chart their lives back to where they want.

As a second-generation Canadian with Caribbean immigrant parents, Nick values and respects the richness of different cultures, thoughts, and beliefs. My ability to establish rapport quickly makes me an excellent choice for men seeking therapy; particularly if this is your first time. Drawing from a wide range of personal experiences, he connects with his clients on various levels.

I firmly believe that every man has a unique story and perspective, and yet, there are common experiences that can be shared. I am a compassionate, reliable, and optimistic therapist, committed to providing a safe and confidential space where men can explore their circumstances, thoughts, and emotions.

Favourite Book: One of the books that I would recommend to help individuals struggling with communication in their relationship and developing a secure sense of connection with others is “Hold Me Tight” by Sue Johnson.

In a world that often expects men to mask their emotions and tough it out, the struggle with mental health can be a silent battle, impacting every aspect of life. As a therapist specializing in men’s mental health, I recognize the unique challenges men face, from relationship hurdles to self-esteem issues, anxiety, and beyond.

Many men grapple with relationship conflicts, family pressures, emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, depression, grief, and the complexities of modern masculinity. These challenges can weigh heavily, affecting personal well-being and relationships.

My mission is to help men break free from these burdensome patterns, empowering them to build healthier connections, find inner peace, and rediscover a sense of purpose and confidence. Together, we’ll navigate through the layers of self-beliefs, communication barriers, and societal pressures, unlocking your true potential.

With over five years of frontline experience in mental health, I’ve guided men through anxiety, depression, self-esteem struggles, ADHD, and relationship issues. My approach integrates practical tools like self-regulation techniques, mindfulness practices, and effective communication strategies to facilitate lasting change.

Through our work, you’ll emerge stronger, more resilient, and equipped to navigate life’s challenges with clarity and authenticity. Experience the transformation of reconnecting with yourself, building fulfilling relationships, and stepping into a brighter future. Acknowledging that you need some support to overcome difficulty in your life can be a challenging task. It can often be much easier to keep trudging along the path we’re on rather than stopping, checking in with ourselves honestly, and realizing that things need to change.

Understanding this, I look to help clients with their courage to take the leap into therapy, and with the support to make for a soft landing. Finding a mental health professional who fits with your personality, therapeutic needs, and goals is a key first stage in the journey towards re-connecting with our inner selves and becoming the version of ourselves we strive to be.

In my experience in this space, I have worked with clients to help overcome their presenting issues and recover after losing touch with themselves. Specifically, I have worked with a large proportion of male clients dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, ADHD, OCD, substance use, men’s issues, relationship concerns, addiction, and insomnia.

The approach that I take with you would of course depend heavily on your unique issues, personal strengths and weaknesses, readiness for change, and some other factors as well. What will always be present however is the trusting, warm, non- judgmental, safe space where the therapeutic bond can begin to grow nicely. I lean on the person-centred approach to help cultivate this rapport while coupling it would more directive modalities including CBT, DBT, Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), and Solution-Focused Therapy.

My aim with clients is something that can be framed simply – to become a more calm, at peace, centred version of yourself, armed with the tools to confidently take on life’s challenges. If you are interested in working together, please feel free to reach out for a free consultation call. We can learn more about each other, talk openly about what is bringing you in, and I can answer questions you may have about the process. Thank you and wishing you all the best in your search.

Hello and welcome! Taking this first step towards healing can be daunting, and I am so glad that you are here. Many men struggle with feeling alone and unheard, and rarely have a safe space carved out to explore their emotional experiences. With the knowledge that there is often stigma surrounding the act of seeking help, my primary goal with clients is to co-create the warm, safe space that is needed to begin processing and facilitate healing. My practice is based on a holistic approach, which allows us to explore all areas of your life (physical, mental, emotional, social, or spiritual) and how they connect to your current mental health needs.

Having experience working with people who are justice involved, insecurely housed, and using drugs has helped me to understand that unwanted behaviours are typically responses to unmet needs. Together, we can explore your needs, increase internal awareness, improve communication skills and relationship satisfaction, expand confidence, and integrate more helpful coping strategies into your daily routine. My hope is to empower my clients to reclaim their experiences, access their inherent strengths, and strengthen the relationships held with others and themselves.

I apply an integrative approach to therapy in order to tailor treatment plans to each specific individual that I work with. Pulling frequently from empirically supported modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, solution-focused therapy, person-centered therapy, trauma-informed practice, and Gestalt therapy, I aim to weave interventions into sessions that will suite each individual client and support their specific goals.

I warmly offer inclusive services for individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, races, ethnicities, abilities, spiritual beliefs, treaty or band status, and citizenship status. My practice operates with a sex-positive lens, offering knowledge and compassion towards topics related to 2SLGBTQIA+, poly dynamics, kink, and CNM. Other areas of specialization include, but are not limited to; anxiety, depression, adverse childhood experiences, addiction, burn out, emotional regulation, communication techniques, identity issues, sexuality, gender identity and expression, self-harm, and poor self-esteem.

I look forward to connecting with you!
